Enable Inclusion Team (EIT)

Introduction

Who are the Enable Inclusion Team (EIT)

EIT is part of Enable Trust and is a team of psychologists and assistant psychologists who work with children, adolescents, families and schools to support positive, inclusive and values-consistent engagement in education.

The team uses an evidence-based, person-centred, values-based wellbeing model called DNA-V to support positive outcomes for the children and young people with whom they work.  For more information about DNA-V, please click DNA-V Model of Psychological Flexibility | DNA-V International (dnav.international)

The team also uses approaches from the world of Positive Behaviour Support (see Center on PBIS | School-Wide) to promote safe, positive, nurturing and compassionate learning environments, in collaboration with schools and families.

Who is EIT for?

EIT works primarily to support young people who are at risk of exclusion from mainstream education and also young people who are anxious about, and avoidant of, school (often termed EBSA – Emotionally-Based School Avoidant).  The primary purpose of EIT is to support the creation of educational contexts for these groups of students to thrive, prosper and engage in successful, inclusive educational experiences, in line with the SEND Code of Practice (DfE, 2015) and the recent SEND Green Paper (DfE, 2022).

 EIT’s local offers include:

  • Intensive, holistic, community-based therapeutic support for children, families and school where young people are at risk of permanent exclusion from mainstream school and young people who are presenting as anxious about, and avoidant of, school (EBSA).
  • Training, supervision and drop-in support for secondary schools around evidence-base approaches to supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. This support is offered as part of our CRISSP project (Coaching for Resilience in Secondary Schools Project). This is a lower-intensity form of support than those described in (1) and (2), above.
  • Support to develop inclusion hubs on mainstream school sites to enable educational engagement of students struggling with anxiety, mental health issues and/or behavioural difficulties. All work in this area focuses on evidence based and outcomes-based practise using DNA-V as the guiding psychological model of support.

How can I access support from EIT for an individual young person?

Schools in the Bristol area are able to request support from the Enable Inclusion Team for a child/young person once they have first sought advice from the Bristol Inclusion Surgeries.  If it is agreed at the Inclusion Surgeries that the case represents an appropriate referral to Enable Inclusion Team, the requesting school can complete the referral form included in the link below.

Where can I access the referral form?

If it is agreed at Bristol Inclusion Surgery that the case represents an appropriate referral to EIT, please complete and submit this electronic referral form with any supporting documentation you feel would help the team understand the child/young person being referred, and their current context.
